Consulting

Looking for feedback on your manuscript? Hoping to apply to MFA programs,
residencies or send your work out to be published? I can help. I've got over ten years of
experience as a writer and editor. I've helped writers formulate ideas at the early stages
of projects and I've also provided feedback to writers close to sending their work out for
publication. Many of the writers I've worked with have gone on to sell books and place
short stories in literary magazines.

Some areas in which I can provide assistance:

* Editorial feedback on short stories (individual stories as well as collections) and novels
* Writing coaching, i.e. helping you organize your time, develop your ideas, get and stay
motivated
* Creating a knockout application to writing residencies and/or writing programs
* Finding literary magazines best suited to your writing
* Teaching best practices for submitting to literary magazines

Not sure if you want to hire someone to help you? Curious about my consulting rates?
Please contact me. I'd be happy to speak with you about your project.

I’ve known Becky Tuch for 8 years—as a colleague in a writing group, sharing leadership in Beyond The Margins, a multi-writer blog, and working together at Grub Street Writers. She has an ability to tease out the best and worst of one’s form and function. Her sharp critique and observation lasers in on determining whether the execution of one’s story is true to the intent.  She possesses the combination of professionalism and caring needed when helping writers sharpen their work for publication.

- Randy Susan Meyers, bestselling author of The Murderer’s Daughters and The Comfort of Lies

I have known Becky for over a decade. She has a keen editorial eye, and focuses on both big-picture issues (plot, narrative arc) as well as the intricacies of character development and dialogue, right down to the sentence level. And she does all this in a kind, helpful professional manner. She is always willing to engage the writer, and work through different solutions. I cannot recommend Becky enough.

- A.X. AHMAD, author of THE CARETAKER and THE LAST TAXI RIDE (forthcoming June 2014)

I have had the great honor of working with Becky Tuch over the past few years to help create, grow and perfect my novel-in-progress.  Her keen observations about all aspects of my novel -- including characters, scenes, structure and theme -- are not only intelligent, but are also delivered in way that helps me believe in myself and my writing.  Under her careful tutelage, I have created a full synopsis, a query letter, as well as over 150 pages of solid material. Her careful prodding keeps me going!

Becky Tuch is the kind of reader and editor who you will know loves the work of writing.  She reviewed and shepherded a collection of short stories towards a final form: scene by scene, character by character, line by line.  Working with her, hearing her comments, left me assured that she had well-considered the pictures on the page, some drawn as sketches, some too blurry,  some she thought were beautiful.  She had steeped herself into the context, followed the characters and lifted out pieces wondering whether they belonged or asking why is this here?  You can expect she will press you and thus bring your mind to new possibilities.
